Infoshop is reporting that the University of Colorado Board of Regents voted 8-1 yesterday in a closed-door meeting to dismiss Ward Churchill for the controversy surrounding statements he made about the September 11th World Trade Center bombings.
In case you've been under a rock and don't know what all the hubbub is about, check out this summary. But in a nutshell, Churchill was targeted by a guy named David Horowitz, who wrote a book called Indoctrination U: The Left's War on Academic Freedom, as well as The Professors: The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America. Both books contain a list of professors who teach subjects like Women's Studies or Ethnic Studies. Churchill, of course, tops the list because of his work documenting radical groups like the American Indian Movement.

(As a side note, I am proud to say that G-Spot co-founder Jadi Morrow was also included on the list.)
Although the UC Board of Regents claims that this week's vote has nothing to do with Churchill's politics, this is clearly a blow to academic freedom. Horowitz's group argues that students shouldn't be "indoctrinated" with biased education. But that only applies if he doesn't agree with your politics. If you support Empire, then he's OK with that kind of indoctrination.
